Really excellent point made by the fancy folks at The Holy Post podcast... "Technically, the Israelites were not worshiping a false god because after they make the golden calf, Aaron says, 'Here is Yahweh who led you out of Egypt.' They were 'making an image' of the true God... Similarly, when these pastors surrounded this golden image of Trump and they say, 'Well, we're not worshiping Trump. We're still worshiping Jesus.' Well, fine. You can call it whatever you want, but the proof is in your behavior. Your allegiance is revealed through your behavior. Your allegiance is proved through your behavior and your rhetoric and your money. So, fine. If you want to say 'we're not worshiping a false god because we worship Jesus', the Israelites technically said they weren't worshiping a false god either, but they were still very guilty of idolatry."
